Key Street Church: Celebrating 1 Year!

A Year of Love, Restoration, and Reconciliation

Team Talk - September

Recently Team Talk caught up with the team from Key Street Church at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth. What makes this team unique is how they serve the Lord and how they minister to the lost by giving them the Message of Hope. The Message of Jesus Christ.

More than a year ago I met with Talieta and Tony as they shared their hopes and dreams to bring to life “Key Street Church”. They wanted to do what they felt God has called them to do. I recall great faith, great love, great courage, great commitment and the desire to bring the vision to life in a way that was pleasing to the Lord.

One year later and still going strong to the Glory of God, they witness daily how the Holy Spirit are changing lives. Giving hope and love to the lost and the homeless in ways that can only inspire others to follow. a source of light in the darkness, a place where the lost find hope, and where every act of love brings glory to God.”

Talieta shares more with our readers: “Our team consists of disciples for Jesus. We are a group of people who has the love and passion for our Lord Jesus Christ and who are eager to serve as Jesus did. Here we all have the heart, passion and desire to work with people who has the need and desire to experience love, acceptance and to belong.

For very member of our team, the most rewarding and amazing experience is, when you see the growth in, and the hunger for the Lord in people who visit the Key Street Church on Sundays.

INTRODUCTION: March 2023, the first seed was received on a small wooden bridge over a beautiful crystal-clear stream of water where the soil, little rocks and green plants were visible. “Go make disciples for Jesus, spread the Gospel.”

Time and prayer went into this, Holy Spirit guiding and leading, preparing the soil, the premises and hearts and hands to bring this command and God’s heart’s desire to life… 5 Months later the Lord put the Key street Church together and the Word and the Love of God started spreading…

THE COMMANDMENT: Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

BIRTH: Sunday, 3 September 2023, Key Street Church was birthed spontaneously in St. George’s Park, igniting a movement that we believe has since become a beacon of hope for many of the homeless etc.. As we celebrate our first anniversary of being the hands and feet of Jesus on the streets, we pause to reflect and give all the glory to God for the incredible journey He has led us on. From the outset, the heart of Key Street Church has never been merely to preach or impose doctrine on those living on the margins. Instead, our mission has been to stranger, the needy, and the poor.

Jesus Himself gave us the blueprint through His commandment: “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:34-35). Love is our entry point. At Key Street Church, we are committed to loving the homeless off the streets—not just with words, but with consistent actions of compassion and care. We believe that love, coupled with the power of the Holy Spirit, can break through even the hardest of hearts.

As Ezekiel 36:26-27 so beautifully reminds us: “And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes and be careful to obey My rules.” As we walk alongside these individuals, helping them navigate their brokenness, unforgiveness, and rejection, we witness the Holy Spirit at work, restoring their true identity—Christ in them, the hope of As we walk alongside these individuals, helping them navigate their brokenness, unforgiveness, and rejection, we witness the Holy Spirit at work, restoring their true identity—Christ in them, the hope of glory!

This process often leads to spiritual healing and even the restoration of relationships and opportunities. We have seen this pattern of transformation repeat itself time and time again, as God opens doors and provides breakthroughs in miraculous ways. At the Street Key Church, on Sundays at 11:00, we praise, worship, pray, cry, dance and enjoy the fellowship and ministering of the Word.

On a Wednesday at 10:00 we have Bible Study under the tree for anybody to join. However, we acknowledge that this journey of restoration is often long and challenging. That is why our approach goes beyond mere handouts – blankets, clothes, food and coffee. We are committed to offering a hand-up, walking alongside each person on their path to victory in Christ Jesus. This is what Key Street Church is all about—being the body of Christ in action, bringing His love, healing, and hope to the streets. As we move forward, our prayer is that this ministry will continue to be a source of light in the darkness, a place where the lost find hope, and where every act of love brings glory to God.”
