The Gospel Hijacked: Christians vs. Christ by stella ashworth
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “I like your Christ; I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”
How painfully true these words still are today. Christians, when disconnected from the true heart of Jesus, can cause more damage to the Gospel than any enemy ever could. Somewhere along the way, many have forgotten the message of Christ, shifting the focus from His love and humility to their own agendas, positions, and desires.
How many of us have been wounded by those who claimed to follow Christ, yet stole our peace, crushed our hope, or manipulated our trust?
How many have been persuaded, deceived, or controlled by voices dressed in religious language but far from God’s heart?
Oh, how some love the front seats of the church… the titles, the applause, the spotlight. They demand respect, but when we fell, they never reached down to lift us up. Instead of carrying the burdens of the broken, many have carried the burden of promoting themselves.
Instead of serving, many have turned the Gospel into an enterprise, profiting from what should be freely given. But Christ is not like them. His love is pure. His heart is gentle. His hands heal, they do not harm. His voice leads, it does not manipulate.
If only we returned to Him, His ways, His character, His compassion, the world would see the true Jesus again.
