The Love Life Foundation: A Mission of Compassion and Change

Team Talk Magazine recently caught up with Pastor Kevin Pillay to learn more about the latest developments within The Love Life Foundation, a dynamic initiative birthed from a powerful vision to serve the people of Gqeberha.

Kevin Pillay: A Man in Action

“For the poor will never cease to be in the land; therefore I command you, saying, ‘You shall freely open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land.’” – Deuteronomy 15:11

Pastor Kevin Pillay lives by this scripture, embodying its truth through the tangible work of The Love Life Foundation. While he acknowledges that he may not be able to change the whole world, he is deeply committed to making a meaningful difference in his corner of it.

Founded in partnership with Victory Ministries International (VMI), under the visionary leadership of Pastor Jerome Liberty, The Love Life Foundation is more than a feeding scheme—it’s a movement. Pastor Liberty’s mission to break the backbone of poverty in Gqeberha led to the establishment of a certified food storage and distribution hub, sanctioned by the Department of Health.

From Humble Beginnings to Remarkable Reach

The foundation’s journey began modestly, with 100 boxes of food from a Baptist church in Cape Town and a heartfelt prayer: “Lord, grant us the opportunity to feed a million kids.” In a supernatural turn of events, The Love Life Foundation became the regional hub for an American donor foundation, receiving its first 40-foot container of food—18 tons strong—capable of feeding over 250,000 children.

Today, the foundation feeds 35,000 children monthly across 48 care points throughout Gqeberha. The focus is on children aged 3 to 18, and stringent procedures ensure that their growth and health are monitored. Nutritionally balanced food—including porridge, soya-based stews, rice, and soup—is provided daily, with only care points operating five days a week eligible for participation. Quarterly reports are sent to donors to track the children’s development.

A Vision for Expansion

Pastor Kevin shares the team’s growing vision: “We are trusting God to extend the feeding program to include adults and the elderly.” The estimated need is eight tons of food monthly, at a cost of approximately R50,000. Plans are also underway to establish a food packaging facility that will support underprivileged families with monthly food parcels.

Honouring Heroes in the Community

The Love Life Foundation is proud to work with numerous soup kitchens, ECD centers, and specialized institutions. Special recognition goes to:

Hendrina Potgieter of Rina’s Community Project, who has selflessly served her community for over 40 years, feeding more than 800 children weekly and overseeing 22 soup kitchens in the Barcelona and Helenvale areas. A true community heroine, we pray for continued strength and grace over her work.

ITHEMBA SPECIAL DAYCARE CENTRE, now an independent NPO under the Port Elizabeth Mental Health Society, which cares for severely mentally disabled children. The center receives food through the foundation and urgently needs assistance with transport and other operational resources.

The Helenvale Barcelona Youth Centre, located at 143 Virgo Street, provides more than meals. Managed by Marie Hammond and Anna Marie Prin, the center feeds 1,400 children weekly, offers safe study spaces, access to Wi-Fi and printing, and engages youth through recreational activities. Pastor Kevin also hosts Sunday services at the venue’s multipurpose hall.

Mustard Seed Daycare, founded by Dawn Denston in Barcelona, Helenvale, supports 70 children aged 1–5. In addition to daily meals, the center provides early childhood education rooted in Christian values.

A Call to Action

“To all our dedicated care point facilitators across the Metro,” Pastor Kevin says, “thank you for your tireless efforts in feeding our children. We’ve even seen a notable decline in the crime rate, which we believe is directly linked to the hope and nourishment you provide each day.” In the spirit of Isaiah 58:6–8, the foundation continues to embody the biblical call to care for the hungry, shelter the poor, and clothe the vulnerable.

The Love Life Foundation is not just feeding children—it’s nourishing futures and restoring hope.

As Pastor Kevin concludes, “Let’s work together to make Gqeberha a better place to live—for everyone.”
