Beyond the Busyness

In a world driven by schedules, social calendars, and constant activity, it’s easy to confuse being busy with being faithful. Many believers mistake church programs, events, and packed diaries as evidence of devotion. Yet, true discipleship is not measured by how much we do, but by how deeply we follow Jesus Christ.

As Jesus Himself said: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)

Following Christ is not a checklist of events; it is a surrendered life.

Following Jesus Is About Relationship, Not Routine

To follow Christ is to walk closely with Him, day by day, moment by moment. It is cultivating intimacy with the One who knows us better than we know ourselves. Prayer, Scripture, and quiet devotion are not optional extras; they are the heartbeat of discipleship.

Busyness often leaves us spiritually exhausted while our souls remain empty. Relationship with Jesus, however, fills us with life, peace, and purpose.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)

Following Jesus Means Surrender, Not Self-Glory

In a culture that praises achievements and applauds public recognition, following Jesus demands humility and surrender. It is not about being seen, but about being faithful. It is not about applause, but obedience. Christ calls us to lay down our will, our pride, and even our carefully crafted plans to embrace His. True followers don’t chase platforms, they carry crosses.

“He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30)

Following Jesus Transforms How We Live

Discipleship changes our priorities, our values, and even the way we spend our time. It shifts us from “fitting Jesus in” to building our entire lives around Him. It means showing kindness when the world offers anger. It means extending grace when others expect judgment. It means living with eternity in mind, not just the demands of today.

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35)

A Call Back to the Heart of Faith

To follow Jesus is not about how many church events we attend, how full our calendars look, or how “busy” we seem for the Kingdom. It is about a surrendered heart, a daily walk, and a love that flows into every area of our lives. The question is not, “How busy am I for God?” but rather, “How close am I to Jesus?

Let us return to the simplicity and power of true discipleship. For when all is said and done, He will not ask how many meetings we attended or how many tasks we completed, He will ask if we truly knew Him and followed Him.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27)
